Nissan Qashqai, Juke, Micra, Renault Fluence automatic transmission solenoids repair.

The work of the modern automatic transmission is controlled by a valve body. The main actuating elements of the valve body are electromechanical valves operating on the principle of an inductive coil and a core, hence the name "solenoids". Depending on the initial state, the solenoids are divided into "Normal-closed" (Normal High) and "Normal-Open" (Normal Low). When the electric impulse is applied, the position of the solenoid is changed. The change in position can occur smoothly over the entire control range, or according to the On / Off"  principle- in this case the solenoid is either fully open or completely closed. These modes of solenoids operation in combination with the flow of transmission fluid (ATF) inside the valve body allow you to control all states of automatic transmission: gear shifting, clutch control and Drive / Park / Reverse modes.

Accordingly, if a solenoid (or a group of solenoids)  of the circuit control by one of the operating modes of the automatic transmission fails, a malfunction of this mode occurs.Gearshifting solenoids failure can cause faulty gearshifting For example,if solenoids responsible for controlling the clutch fail, slips and shocks can occur during gearshifting.  During diagnosis of any automatic transmission malfunction, checking the solenoids is a mandatory procedure.

Maktrans company uses modern equipment, which allows checking the work of solenoids, under conditions that exactly correspond to real operating conditions. Those. When checking the working pressure of oil, its temperature is set, and also the solenoid itself is heated as if it worked in the AT valve body in the hottest weather.

Control signals, and landing pads for installing a solenoid are selected for each model of automatic transmission, the test results are presented in the form of graphs and tables. The failed solenoids show graphs with an exit from the allowed zone (the lower green and upper red borders). Broken lines of the graph also indicate errors in the solenoid's operation.

Usually, if a failed solenoid is detected, its replacement is recommended. Considering that the number of failed and "suspicious" solenoids can be much more than one during the check, replacing the set of solenoids can become a serious expense . The specialists of  Maktrans company have developed a technology for repairing solenoids, which allows to save considerably on solenoid replacement. Disassembly and assembly of the solenoid is carried out by a special tool, also developed by the specialists of Maktrans company.

First of all, the failure of solenoids occurs due to  mechanical parts defects - bushings. With time and use, the holes of the bushings are erased, scratches appear- as a result, the valve is jammed.

The manufacture of new bushings allows the operating status of the solenoid to be restored. The cost of such  operation is much less than the cost of a new solenoid, the effect is the same.

After repair, all solenoids are rechecked on the test bench.

Solenoid repair technology, developed by Maktrana company specialists , is a cost-effective alternative to the purchase of new solenoids. Road tests of valve bodies with regenerated solenoids showed full compliance of the operating parameters with the factory tests, which is confirmed by the results of the service programs of the automatic transmission manufacturers.

Replacement of plungers.

Modern CVT is controlled via  hydraulic control unit or shortly valve body. The valve body consists of a demountable body, electromechanical valves (solenoids) and movable elements - plungers. In most cases, the plunger is moved by a valve body solenoid, less often due to external mechanical drives, incl. manual control.

The main task of the plunger is to open or close the oil channel inside the valve body housing to control the operation of the CVT. In this case, it is especially important that the clearance between the working surface of the plunger and the body of the valve body has a minimum value (of the order of microns) to ensure the tightness of the hydraulic system. Stable operation of the valve body and CVT as a whole is possible only in the case of a standard oil pressure level, both in the control loop and in the mechanical part.

Excess or decrease in oil pressure are the main reasons for the CVT failure and the failure of individual components. One of the reasons for the failure of the hydraulic regime is the failure of the valve body plungers, or rather the destruction of the surface of the plungers.

The movement of the plunger inside the valve body channel is accompanied by friction, CVT fluid - transmission oil acts as a lubricant. Over time, oil is contaminated with mechanical particles - products of destruction of friction clutches and metal parts of transmission parts. As a result, the gear oil starts to work as an abrasive, especially in places with a minimum frictional clearance - as in the case of the plunger surface and the valve body housing.

Initially, the mirror surface of the plunger wears out under the action of the abrasive, scratches appear, in some cases there is a global destruction of the surface and the cleavage of the working layer can be seen with the naked eye. Such a plunger can no longer provide the required level of tightness of the channel, which leads to pressure loss in the valve body and disturbances in the CVT operation.

Thumps and slips at speed increase, no torque converter lockout, dynamic characteristics violation - all this may be a consequence of the failure of the plunger of the control channel of the valve body. In addition, a damaged plunger can begin to destroy the channel of the valve body housing at the places of the most frequent contact, which leads to even greater problems in the CVT operation. The only solution to the problem is the competent diagnosis and timely replacement of the plunger.

The specialists of the Maktrans company have developed their own technology for the production of plungers. The plunger is produced on a machine with a digital control, which allows you to accurately repeat the dimensions of the original.

The next step is to put the working layer, using the anodizing method - the plunger as an anode is placed in the electrolyte solution, resulting in an appearance of oxide layer with the required mechanical characteristics on the plunger surface.

The finished plunger is installed in to the valve body for carrying out the obligatory tests. During the test, the valve body pressure level is checked at all operating modes. At the end of the test, the valve body is connected to the mechanical part of the CVT and the vehicle undergoes obligatory road tests.

Valve body repair with the use of Maktrans produced plungers allows to significantly reduce the final cost and provide further warranty and post-warranty maintenance of the valve body. It is also possible to purchase sets of plungers to perform valve body DIY-repair.
