The work of the modern automatic transmission is controlled by  electrohydraulic control unit. Upshifting or downshifting, changeover to Drive / Park / Reverse mode - all this is the result of the valve body correct operation. In VW terminology, the electrohydraulic control unit is called mechatronic. The main working elements of mechatronics are control solenoids  - the so-called electromechanical valves that change the oil pressure (hydraulic fluid ATF) in the channels of the valve body. The mechanical part of the automatic transmission is controlled by ATF pressure .

Like any mechanism, solenoids are also susceptible to wear during operation and can also fail, disrupting the normal operation of the automatic transmission. If solenoids responsible for the clutch fail, there are problems with gear shifting, bumps and jerks  when  changing over to  Drive / Park / Reverce mode , clutch slippage.

To determine the operability of the solenoid, special equipment is used. Tests are held in conditions that repeat the operation of the solenoid in the valvebody- the oil temperature rises, the pressure changes within the permissible limits, and additionally the solenoid itself also warms up.

The result of the test is the solenoid operation schedule in the range of the control signal. Smooth lines of the graph inside the permissible zone indicate the correct operation of the valve, the presence of knees and "steps" indicates the need to replace the solenoid.

Maktrans company specialists have developed the most profitable option for solving the problem of failed solenoids - repair. When defining the solenoids breakdown type, specialists found out that the failure is associated with abrasion  of the elements of the solenoid, namely, bushings and couplings.

After replacing the damaged elements, the solenoid undergoes retesting. Smooth lines of the graph within the permitted zone indicate the efficiency of the repair, while the cost of repair is much less than the cost of the new solenoid, and the quality is in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements. The recovered solenoid is returned to the valve body, after that the automatic transmission undergoes mandatory road tests. The work of the clutch system acquires the previous clarity, the gear shifting is smooth and without jerks.
