Checking pressure sensors of JF011E CVT valve body

The interaction between the driver and the mechanical part of the CVT takes place through the valve body. Switching the  Parking / Revers / Drive modes, raising and lowering the speed - all these actions are controlled by the valve body using the pressure of hydraulic fluid (oil). The oil pressure level in the valve body is measured by pressure sensors and transmitted to the electronic control unit, i.e. From how accurately the pressure will be measured depends the work of the entire CVT.

The operating  principle of the pressure sensor is the following: when the oil pressure increases, the resistance of the sensor increases, which causes an increase in the voltage at the output of the pressure sensor. By reading the output voltage level, the electronic control unit "understands" the oil pressure level in the valve body.

The failure of the pressure sensors can be the cause of activating the CVT emergency mode , slippage of the belt, thumps when switching Parking / Revers / Drive and overheating.  Specialists of the  Maktrans company developed a special scheme in order to check the pressure sensors. The circuit consists of a power supply unit, connectors for connection to pressure sensors and a multimeter.When the 220 V power supply is connected to the mains,  it  supplies a constant voltage to  the pressure sensors.

On the other hand, the output voltage, which is measured by a multimeter when the oil pressure in the valve body is changed, is removed from the pressure sensors. The output voltage measurements are compared with the table values of the CVT manufacturer's manual.

To create working pressure and measure its value, the sensors are mounted on a plate connected to the test stand. During the stand operation, the oil pressure is applied to the sensors, which rises at regular intervals. In this case, the sensors are connected to a circuit developed by the specialists of the company Maktrans, which allows measuring the output voltage in real time. If the output voltage rises with increasing pressure, remaining in the acceptable table values - then the sensor is faultless.

At the beginning of the test, there is no pressure, which corresponds to the lower limit of the output voltage of 0.7 V. Then the pressure rises, and every 50 PSI  the output voltage level is measured.

The check of the sensors ends at a maximum operating pressure of about 17 atmospheres.

The original measuring scheme of the company Maktrans and a special test stand allow to diagnose pressure sensors of most models of automatic transmissions and CVTs. The sensors are checked in conditions as close as possible to operational ones, which allows to accurately assess the condition of the pressure sensors, to determine and eliminate the cause of the valve body malfunctions.

The original solution of the mechanical part of the transmission works under the control of the valve bodyt, as on the conventional automatic transmission with shifting gears, which means that the owners of the CVT face the same problems as the owners of stepped AT.

A sign of problems with the valve body may be overheating of the transmission, the destruction of the mechanical parts of the CVT (pulleys, chains), thumps  when switching Parking / Revers / Drive. In case of occurrence of one of the symptoms, it is necessary to pass the diagnostics of the valve body as soon as possible, so that there will be no further destruction of the CVT and complete stopping of the car.

Maintenance of the valve body by the specialists of  Maktrans company consists of the following steps.

After cleaning the valve body plates, the tightness of the control valve channels is checked. Over time, the channels wear out, the workings are formed, this leads to a reduction in the oil pressure in the system, which can cause malfunctions. The test is performed by a device that generates a reduced pressure. In the channel under test, a suitable plunger is installed, after which vacuumisation takes place. If the pressure does not increase, then the channel is OK, if there is bleeding, then there is a wear in the channel and it needs to be restored.

External inspection of the elements of the valve body plate can also show problem areas - scratches and workings on the surface of the channels of the control valves.

To restore the valve channel specialists of the Maktrans company make a bushing, which exactly repeats the design of the channel of the new valve body plate. The bushing is made of high-quality aluminum and provides the necessary level of compression in the hydraulic system.

The bushing is installed in the valve body and is practically indistinguishable from the rest of the elements of the hydraulic plate as it is made of the same material.

Also, the cause of the oil pressure drop in the system can be mechanical damage of the valve plunger surface. Surface can have scratches, chips, destruction of Teflon coating. In this case, the specialists of the company Maktrans recommend the replacement of the plunger with a new one, of the well -known  Sonnax trademark (USA)
