Transmission Drum Upgrade: C3 | C4 Clutch TG-81SC for Toyota U881

As part of our ongoing work on specific transmission tuning and repair projects, our team carried out an interesting technical adaptation. We took a C3 | C4 Clutch TG-81SC transmission drum and customized it for installation on a TOYOTA U881 transmission.

What was the difficulty?

Despite the structural similarity of these units, direct replacement is not possible without serious intervention.

How are they different?

The main difference lies in the markings located on the outside of the drum. These markings are where the speed sensors read RPM information.

TG-81SC: has a specific configuration of notches/teeth, adapted to the operating algorithms of its control unit.

TOYOTA U881: requires a different location or number of tags for correct data transmission to the speed sensor.

Thanks to high-precision machining and re-marking, the customized drum is now fully compatible with the U881 RPM sensing system. This allows the use of reliable TG-81SC components wherever needed for upgrading or rebuilding Toyota transmissions.
