ECU programming FW6A-EL (GW6A-EL)

FW6A-EL (GW6A-EL) - 6-speed front / all-wheel drive transverse automatic transmission, developed by Aisin Warner for Mazda vehicles.
  • F - Forward - front-wheel drive automatic transverse arrangement
  • W - developed by Aisin Warner
  • 6 - 6 speed
  • A - Automatic
  • EL - E - electric control, L - (LockUp) - blocking of the torque converter.

In 2012, it was installed on the Mazda CX-5 with a 2.0 liter engine. Then it was installed on Mazda-3, Mazda-6 for the whole range of 2.5 liter engines.
There is a rare modification for diesel engines - GW6A-EL.
Since 2014, this automatic transmission has been installed on right-hand drive cars with 1.5-2.0 liter engines.
Problems with the box are manifested in the following symptoms:

  • vibrations of the box appear
  • shocks and thumps of the transmission
  • transition to higher and lower gear occurs with a delay

These symptoms signal an upcoming call for service and diagnostics.
The weak point in the FW6A-EL was the center bearing, its seat is broken by a steel retaining ring.

Also, the heat exchanger requires replacement (or flushing) after 100 thousand km. In order to prevent overheating of the oil and malfunctions of the oil pump, mechanical part and electronic box control unit (ECU).
If the ECU still fails, there is an option with replacing the unit with a used one (buy)
Before installing the used unit, it must be reprogrammed.
For programming you need:

  • "Old" unit - from which the data will be copied (the unit must communicate)
  • "New" unit - to which the data of the old unit will be transferred

Programming can be done on a table (blocks removed from transmission) or on a car without dismantling the block.
