The torque converter for FORD 10R80 and GM 10L90 transmissions is a unique new design. The converter lock-up clutch has been moved to the rear of the converter. The converter lock-up piston is no longer flat, but is now tapered and located along the contour of the turbine impeller. This innovative solution will provide a lot of repair problems associated with replacing the friction lining and grinding the working surface of the lock-up piston, which is located on the impeller of the torque converter and also has a curved shape. The high cost of repair is fully justified by the complexity of the design of this torque converter.
