One of the main reasons of the mechanical part failure of the automatic transmission is the insufficient pressure of the oil coming from the valve body. Dirty and too hot oil works as an abrasive, the valve body channels are being clogged and worn out, which leads to jamming of the plungers and solenoids. As a result, the clutch packs experience oil starvation, the friction burns, which in turn aggravates the condition of the valve body even more.
For the driver, these events are expressed in jerks or pauses when switching from 2 to 3 gears - a sure sign of wear of the SLS solenoid and the valve body channel in which it operates. When the transmission switches with thumps - it's not only discomfort for the driver, it's the beginning of the accelerated destruction of the mechanical part. The teeth of the planetary gears can be destroyed, the braking band with a fast start quickly loses the friction layer and stops working correctly.
It is recommended to check the valve body at the first symptom of faults, if it is done in time - the replacement of solenoids and cleaning the valve plate will be enough, otherwise one way out is the purchase of a new or rebuilt valve body.
