Gear selector position sensor is located above the shift rod in the gearbox  housing. It is connected to a cable, linked directly to the gear selector. Gear selection P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1 corresponds to a certain combination of closed contacts. The sensor sends information about the position of the gear selector to  the automatic transmission control unit. The control unit analyzes the incoming data and activates the corresponding gearbox  mode; - start  of the relay of reversing lamps; - Lock the starter when the transmission is switched on. In case of malfunction of  selector lever control unit assumes   gear selector  position «D»  as a working position  . This leads to the following actions: In the position   D", "3" and "2" fourth gear is automatically switched on , manual mode selection with  2 or 3 gears is impossible. Unconnected joint  is characterized as faulty. If  the position R  signal is absent the car is not moving backwards.
