Wear of the gear and the sleeve of the automatic transmission pump due to contaminated oil and vibration of the fluid coupling is a classic problem for most automatic transmissions. However, there are frequent cases of replacing the FW6AEL pump due to wear of the High/Low drum support, which is made on the stator of the oil pump. During aggressive driving (especially when cold), the clutch drum warps and eats away the sealing rings, the sleeve, and then the support surface. As a result, the oil pressure in the drum drops and the friction packs burn out.
