The shell/hub of the No.4 ring gear of the second generation ZF 8HP70 8HP75 8HP55A 8HP65A transmission has an increased size at the seating location of the No.4 planetary ring gear.

The No.4 ring gear in such transmissions is also of increased diameter. The outer diameter of the gear along the fixation teeth in the shell housing is 179.45 mm.

The old-style ring gear (outer diameter along the fixation teeth in the shell body is 177.05 mm) is not suitable; when installed, a gap is formed between the gear and the shell, preventing reliable fixation of the ring gear in the shell/hub body. (Fig.2)
