Transmission centrifugal pressure solenoid upshifts and downshifts. Solenoid pressure influences the switching plungers. Shifting pressure is dependent on the throttle position and output shaft speed sensor. When solenoid gets stuck Jeep Cherokee starts not from the first gear and when braking does not shift to 1st gear. It can be checked if you place gear selector to position 1. Then the car begins to move from the first gear. It is better to replace solenoid with pressure sensor.
