It is used for repairing a torque converter, namely strengthening the rigidity of the spring damper structure.
From the factory, the damper springs are secured between two stamped steel plates, the plates are connected to each other using rivets.
During operation, when the centrifugal torque of the springs acts on the plates, the rivet joint breaks the seat.
In some cases, at a critical level of depletion of rivet joints, the plates may bite rivet after rivet.
In such cases, springs, parts of rivets and springs fall out of their seats into the internal space of the torque converter and all components are ground as if in a blender, leaving nothing “living”; such a torque converter cannot be restored.
To prevent such scenarios, whenever we repair a 0C8 4.2 Diesel torque converter, we weld additional plates between the damper plates to provide additional rigidity to the structure.
