Oil pump repair 6T40 6T45 6T50 (Chevrolet Captiva Cruze Aveo Malibu Lacetti)

Hydra-Matic (6T30 6T40 6T45 6T50) —a series of six-speed automatic transmissions manufactured by General Motors. These automatic transmissions in our market are most often found on the Chevrolet Captiva, Cruze, Aveo, Malibu, Lacetti. Various modifications of the boxes of this series are designed to work with different engines with a volume of 1.4 to 3.2 liters, respectively, and are designed taking into account different input torque.

Previously, we talked about  solenoids 6T30 6T40 repair and showed how looked  valve body repair using valves in standard+ size ,now it's the oil pump turn - GM traditionally placed the torque converter lock-up valve and pressure control valve directly in the oil pump stator. These are the highest loaded plungers in the entire hydraulic system of any automatic transmission, since they work almost continuously, which means they wear out faster than others.

You can identify the problem with the oil pump valves by the following symptoms:

    Pressure Regulator Valve:

 

•         If you stand for more than 30 seconds in one place - automatic exit from auto-neutral occurs, the car shakes back and forth
•         If you continue to operate a car with such a problem, the box may burn out due to a lack of oil pressure

    TCC Control Valve:

 

•         Inadequate torque converter lock-up, computer diagnostics may show errors associated with TCC Lock up
•         Automatic transmission overheating

Repair beginning

We remove the main pressure valve and see the problem, the anodized coating of the valve has been erased

Vacuum Testing. The normal result is 18-21 inches of mercury, the indicators below are the basis for replacing the valve with a new one.

We offer 2 solutions to the problem:
 

•     Installing the valve in a standard + size (the easiest option, since it does not require a special tool to install it —  Pressure Regulator valve (in standard size +0.005-0.007 mm) 6T30 6T40 6T45 6T50 (1 gen)
• Installation of a repair valve, a reamer is required and a table for fixing the pump hub, is used if the standard + valve installation has not raised the vacuum value to the desired level— Oversized Pressure Regulator Valve 6T30 6T40 6T45 6T50

In this case, we successfully restored the tightness of the “channel + plunger” pair, however, if there had been a critical wearout in the pump hub, this method would not have helped, we would have to have installed a repair valve,we have it in stock  for sale:

We independently produce valves on high-precision CNC machines and reamers for their installation. Reamers are made of high-quality high-speed steel and have a large working resource, in the photo below - the cutting part of the reamer of the Pressure Regulator valve.

We fix the pump hub on the machine and ream the hole to the size of the oversized valve diameter

We repeat the vacuum test, the tightness is restored
