Oil pump driven gear FORD HF35 Hybrid 

The most common problem associated with the driven gear of an oil pump is a design miscalculation or a specially calculated design limitation of the transmission resource, but opinions can be purely subjective.

Let's consider the problem in more detail. The shaft with the driven gear of the oil pump has two points of support: the first is directly the aluminum housing of the oil pump, which includes the shaft and mates with the drive gear of the oil pump. The second point of support falls on the support aluminum plate, on which the seat of the support ball radial bearing of the rotor shaft of the electric motor-generator of the transmission is located. The emphasis on the material is aluminum, of which the oil pump housing is made. And the base plate was not made by chance, since the driven gear with the shaft itself is made of steel, which has a much higher density of metal than aluminum. It is worth noting that the steel gear shaft runs directly over the aluminum, the gear shaft jobs do not have slip bushings. During long-term operation, the shaft breaks the seat in the base plate and loses centering relative to its original position.  


The displacement of the center of the shaft axis due to the broken seat in the aluminum plate entails a displacement of the teeth relative to the teeth of the drive gear of the oil pump drive, which is drawn on the rear of the planetary gear and forms a whole with it. As a result, the teeth are on top of each other, which leads to their damage and the formation of a large gap between the teeth; this leads to incorrect operation of the oil pump, violation of oil circulation in the transmission - the transmission begins to overheat, seizures appear on the gears of the oil pump.

Over time, the engagement between the driving and driven gears of the oil pump drive disappears, the gears slip, which entails the complete destruction of the driven gear and damage to the drive gear, which is located at the rear of the planetary gear. The oil pump drive is out of order, the oil pump does not function. Oil circulation is stopped, friction of metal on metal begins, the transmission overheats, further movement is impossible, the final is a major overhaul of the transmission.
