At first glance, the General Motors 9T50 nine-speed transmission could easily be mistaken for a GM 6T41 six-speed (6T40 GEN3). Not only is the weight of the two transmissions about the same, but the physical dimensions of the case are also almost identical. The bell housing of the 9T65 is very similar to the bell housing of the 6T41 (6T40 GEN3), due to the implementation of a chain driven remote access pump. But the pumps have in common only the chain drive. The rest is very different. Without disassembling the transmission, the first thing that catches your eye is the 19 mounting bolts on the outside of the bell. When demounting, it becomes obvious that we have on the table exactly the nine-speed transmission GM 9T65, this can be easily determined by some of the design features of the oil pump installation:

• The front wall of the transmission housing acts as a pump front cover with oil channels located on it.
• The hub is bolted to the front transmission housing.
• Between the bell part and the cast-iron hub of the pump, which is also the valve body of the hydraulic part of the pump, a thin metal plate is installed that serves as a gasket.
