Valve body repair using valves in standard + size V4A51 R4A51 V5A51 R5A51 (Mitsubishi Pajero, Pajero Sport, Pajero Wagon)

In this article, we will tell you about the repair of valve bodies of popular 4 and 5-speed Mitsubishi transmissions, namely the R4A51 / V4A51 and R5A51 / V5A51 series, found in our market mainly on Mitsubishi Pajero, Pajero Sport and Pajero Wagon. The name of the transmission is deciphered as follows:

• The first letter is the type of drive, full (V) or rear (R)
• The second digit is the number of transfers
• 3 letters and 2 numbers - designation of the maximum allowable torque

Thus, R4A51 is a 4-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive belonging to the Heavy-Duty class - it is able to work in tandem with engines of 2 to 3.8 liters.
It is the valve body repair R4A51 that we will show. This valve body has been studied quite well by repairers and all the weak points are known, namely, the main pressure valve, the torque converter lock-up valve and the modulator valve.
As a rule, the following symptoms indicate a malfunction of these plungers:

• Overheating - the reason in the torque converter lock-up valve and the main pressure valve
• Shocks when shifting or slipping - the reason is the modulator valve, which is just responsible for redirecting and adjusting the flow of transmission fluid when changing gears

For repairs, we will use NO-REAM valves of our own production, the main feature of which is the ability to install them without opening the hole, which allows the unit to be restored in the shortest possible time. Such a valve is on average 0.015 mm larger than the original, often enough to restore the correct clearance in the channel + plunger pair and obtain the desired tightness.

Starting vacuum test

The valve body has already been disassembled and washed in an automatic car wash, we start by checking the valves with  vacuum tester.

• Main Pressure Regulator  valve- 8 mercury column is the basis for replacing the valve with a new one.

                                                                                 We remove the old valve. The original is made of steel, the valve shows wear and tear.

We install a new valve, the material is aluminum, the coating is cold hard anodizing, which means that our valves are extremely resistant to wear.

Testing. We make sure that the new valve has raised the tightness to the required level.
