RE5R05A transmission (the same JR507E) is the first Jatco production unit where the lock-up piston with a glued friction layer is not used in the torque converter design, and plates are used in both the Mercedes (722.6, 722.9) and ZF (5HP, 6HP etc.) clutches. Overall, the unit turned out to be reliable, but the design feature of the torque converter demands the oil to be changed more often than the manufacturer recommends, and in the event of any repair, the repairmen are recommended to cut the "bagel", as the faulty TQ "kills" the hydraulic part with friction wear products.
