The planetary gear ring gear No.2 of the eight-speed ZF 8HP70 8HP75 8HP55A 8HP65A transmission comes in two versions, depending on the transmission generation.
The gears of the first (GEN1) and second (GEN2) generations are not interchangeable with each other, as they have different diameters.

• 149 mm outer diameter of gear GEN1;
• 150.80 mm outer diameter of gear GEN2;

Planetary gears No.2 also have different ones for GEN1 and GEN2 . For planetary gear No.2 of the second generation, a sun gear with an outer diameter of 81.80 mm is used.
The GEN1 ring gear cannot be installed on the GEN2 planetary gear No.2 due to the difference in diameters.

The GEN2 ring gear is installed on the No.2 planetary gear, but this creates an unacceptable gap between the planetary gear satellite teeth and the ring gear teeth (the difference in the gap is clearly shown in the photo) and, as a result, an uncharacteristic backlash. The contact area of the teeth in this case is minimal and unreliable, and threatens to break the teeth under load.
