Automatic transmission oil pump is a gear pump with internal gearing (Duocentric pump type). It is driven directly by the engine, through the torque converter, for this purpose protrusions on the pump gear come into two grooves on the SDT neck. Oil pump draws oil from the sump, pressurizes and feeds the valve body with oil required for a gear change oil. As a rule pump fails to work due to oil starvation and as a result - overheating.
